Ashwin, who replaced injured Axar Patel in the Indian squad, was recently spotted training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), under the guidance of chief VVS Laxman and spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. The 37-year-old all-rounder, who has played just 2 ODIs in the past six years, is expected to feature in a league of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).
The VAP Trophy’s one-day league is underway, and Ashwin will play for the Take Solution MRPA side against Young Stars at the SSN College Ground on Tuesday. Cricket commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle has also confirmed that Ashwin will feature in the tournament.
